A design concept for a post-modern take on the Joseph Campbell “Hero’s Journey”, the protagonist-centered discovery-and-trial story structure that narratives conform to across human cultures and encompass everything from Homer’s Odyssey to Star Wars.
It’s a kind of “conceptual sales catalog,” offering up all the accessories and ephemera we know from popular fiction and myth–from weapons and vehicles to moral values. The Journal takes readers for a ride through the common story structure underlying them all, illustrating the parallels among stories and inviting them to draw connections to their own lives and “self-narrative.”
The bulk of imagery inside the catalog comes from available movie stills, promotional photography and artwork. Design, cover artwork, and copy are original.
